The new Sony Crackle streaming video service will mould itself to the tastes of its users. This is according to the head of the technology's department Eric Berger, who told the LA Times that the opinions of users were paramount when selecting titles for the initial launch. Costing $4.99 (£3) per month, the service allows users of smartphones with Google Android to view TV episodes and films from studios such as Columbia Pictures, Tri-Star and Sony Pictures Classics. The focus is on classic movies rather than the latest flicks, meaning users are more likely to see Taxi Driver on the service than Toy Story 3. A free service which offers snippets of TV episodes is also available. Commenting on the launch, Mr Berger, who is also senior vice president of Sony Pictures' digital network, said: "We don't just aggregate content. We program and curate our titles to fit the tastes of our viewers." Earlier this month, details were of a conference where the future of stream video will be on the agenda were announced. The Interxion event is taking place at the Novotel London West on October 14th and 15th 2010. ![]() |
