The BBC announced it has beaten its previous monthly record for the amount of streaming media content downloaded in a single month during December 2010.
Its iPlayer posted 145 million requests for shows during the month - up 27 per cent year-on-year with December 2009 and the third consecutive month of record growth. More than three million requests were made for the Top Gear Christmas special, with the programme taking the top spot in the broadcaster's list of most requested items. Daniel Danker, general manager for programmes and on demand at the BBC, said: "These figures are a fantastic way to start the New Year and I'm looking forward to building on these while we continue to evolve and improve BBC iPlayer." Meanwhile, internet search provider Yahoo! recently announced the appointment of former Fox Interactive executive Mickie Rosen to the role of senior vice-president of the Yahoo! Media Network. She will be responsible for the development of the organisation's streaming media services over the coming years. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
