A decision to alter the terms of the distribution agreement will not affect the quality of streaming media content available on Netflix, it has been claimed.
Starz, a subsidiary of Liberty Media, followed CBS's Showtime in renegotiating its contract relating to original content, with the changes due to come into force from April 1st 2011. The company has put in place a 90-day window, during which time its programmes will not yet be available on Netflix. A spokesperson from Starz told the Financial Times: "There are titles that come in and out of licence ... that's part of the windowing system that's been in place in Hollywood for years." According to research by the NPD Group, Netflix boasted 61 per cent of the downloaded and streamed online movie market in the US between January and February 2011. The Starz representative suggested to the UK newspaper that the new arrangement is simply part of the natural ebb and flow of content availability. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
