An innovative streaming video initiative has been launched by the FA Cup in association with its new sponsor Budweiser to show a preliminary round match to a potential audience of up to 700 million viewers.
The match between Ascot United and Wembley FC is to be streamed live via social media site Facebook and it is the first live broadcast of its kind in any sport. Budweiser marketing director Ian Newell said: "This is the first time an FA Cup tournament fixture has been broadcast live on the social network, which is great news for football fans and clubs alike." Last year's competition was won by Manchester City, defeating fellow Premier League rivals Stoke City in the final by one goal to nil. It was the first trophy won by Manchester City for 35 years. The winning goal in the game came courtesy of a thunderous drive from Yaya Toure in the 74th minute that gave Stoke keeper Thomas Sorenson little chance. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
