Video hardware and software developer ViewCast has announced that it now supports Microsoft Silverlight 3. As part of the new move, ViewCast's Niagara and Osprey product portfolios will provide its customers with a high-quality streaming media platform aimed at increasing the effectiveness of their internet video programming. ViewCast's Niagara streaming media encoders deliver quality, high-resolution live and on-demand streaming, as well as rich media capabilities through Silverlight features. The encoders enable users to quickly capture and broadcast premium quality audio and video in multiple formats and bit rates at the same time. "The Microsoft Silverlight platform is quickly transforming the streaming media technology landscape, expanding the breadth and flexibility of content delivery capabilities for the digital media marketplace," said Dave Stoner, president and chief executive of ViewCast. Steve Sklepowich, group product manager for Silverlight at Microsoft, added that Silverlight 3 is an "exciting step" towards the future of rich-media streaming content development. Earlier this year, ViewCast announced that it signed a new distribution agreement with Ambient Media.
