The development of streaming video technology is increasingly making it easier to work remotely, an expert has suggested. Pete Goold, managing director of Punch Communications, said the advent of online cloud applications, wireless broadband and social networking tools has had a "massive" difference in the way people work. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video conferencing and desktop hosting also now mean that location is becoming increasingly irrelevant in the business world. "Coupled with the wide variety of web-based applications that are available to businesses, people can still be productive and do their job just as efficiently regardless of their location," Mr Goold said. He predicted that in the future, mobile technology will advance to a stage where many current facilities are combined into a single package by various providers and the business capabilies of handheld devices such as Apple's iPhone will continue to improve. Industry trends show there is a rising interest in Web 2.0 technologies across Europe. ![]() |
