American Idol creator Simon Fuller has announced that he will premiere his new entertainment show on streaming video website Hulu months before it appears on television. The new programme If I Can Dream will follow five young hopefuls trying to make it big in the entertainment industry and their every move will be streamed online. Audiences will also be able to interact with the show's stars via video messages and social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Jason Kilar, chief executive of Hulu, said: "We're going to see a lot of experimentation going on where content creators use Hulu to mitigate the risk of the pilot process. The next frontier is the video world of authentic real time interaction." Industry spectators say the move could signal a change in the way broadcasting in the US operates. Hulu, which was founded by NBC Universal and News Corp, generated around 42 million viewers in October alone. ![]() |
