Comcast has launched its new Xfinity TV brand of steaming video for US consumers.
The cable television provider has signed agreements with Showtime and Viacom to gain access to more than 150,000 film, television and audio choices that viewers will soon be able to download. Streaming media services are free to the company's digital television subscribers and on-demand viewing will soon be available for mobile devices, the firm stated. "Bolstered by the best content from top programmers and rich tools to help personalise your TV viewing experience, we've created a destination that enables customers to watch, find and manage their favourite shows and movies anytime, anywhere," said Matt Strauss, senior vice-president and general manager at Comcast Interactive Media. Elsewhere, Sean Carton recently wrote in an article for ClickZ that the future of television could be streaming media via the internet. He argued that "convergence" in the home will mean users will be able to access live television online in much the same way as it is presently received via a broadcaster. ![]() |
