Multimedia firm Adobe has unveiled a list of partner organisations that will come on board to support its open framework for developing custom media players. The company said a number of content delivery networks including Akamai, Limelight Networks, Level 3 and CDNetworks have voiced their commitment to collaborate with Adobe's new project Strobe. Scheduled to launch later this year, Strobe is designed to form an industry standard for the development of media players. Analytics providers such as Omniture, Visible Measures and Nielsen have also been announced as partners in the new venture. Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of Dynamic Media at Adobe, said: "By providing all the key components for online video player development, the Strobe framework will drastically save time for media companies who don't want to start the process from scratch." He added that there is currently a "real need" for a free open framework that allows companies to develop their own streaming video players in a quick and cost-effective way. ![]() |
