Adobe Flash Player is set to be made available to mobile phone handsets, it has been claimed. Adobe Flash Player 10.1, the latest version of the software that is behind 75 per cent of online streaming videos, is due to launch, allowing users to watch any online video that plays via Flash on their handsets such as YouTube and BBC iPlayer. Andrew Laughlin, of Digitalspy.co.uk, said the imminent release of Adobe's Flash Player 10.1 is probably just one step on the evolution of mobile video technology. "There are plenty of further developments to come in online video, mostly on fixed networks before mobile," he said. Mr Laughlin maintained that despite some major developments, we are still at the early stages of video-on-demand and live video streams on fixed broadband networks, so mobile will probably take a while before it becomes a seriously prominent platform. A recent survey by the Communications Consumer Panel found that around a third of consumers and small firms regularly experience problems with their mobile coverage. ![]() |
