Electronics and networking firm Cisco has unveiled a new web conferencing system that will allow firms to communicate with colleagues across national borders.
Cisco TelePresence enables companies to engage in virtual meetings with co-workers in far-flung destinations using streaming media technology. The systems also features a carbon footprint calculator that allows firms to see how much carbon would be produced if they chose to travel to a business meeting. David Martella, director of operations and strategy for Cisco TelePresence, said the company has about 500 customers who have purchased the technology and 3,500 to 4,000 installations have been completed throughout the globe. Speaking via video link at the Cisco TelePresence Virtual Meetings studio launch at the Marriott Hotel Park, he commented: "[Firms] start out thinking that that they are going to save a great deal on travel, but what they tell us is that the real benefit is increased collaboration [and] faster time to market." ![]() |
