Sony's eagerly anticipated new video streaming service for the PS3, Vidzone, is set for its launch early next year.
The service will offer music downloads as well as streaming video and will allow users to build up a library of personalised content to watch repeatedly on their console.
Although Vidzone's PAL services on the PS3 platform are not set to go live until 2009, a version of the technology is already available on the internet for users to try out.
However, users will have to wait for the music service to appear on the console, which Sony does not expect to be available until at least the third quarter of 2009.
It will also be offered as a free service on the PSP, Sony's portable games and music console, and will include a ringtone download feature.
Those wishing to make use of Vidzone on their mobile phone will need to pay a small fee for any downloads.
