Interactive display will highlight the wonder of family life to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend.

Amnesty International UK is staging a living installation over Mother’s Day weekend: ‘The Undeniable Wonder of Family Life.’ The installation, created by VCCP, will celebrate the joy of spending time with family and highlight the importance of reuniting refugee families.

Amnesty will be inviting real families to spend time in a large Perspex box on London’s Southbank where the public can observe them sharing the joys of everyday family life: playing games, sharing a takeaway, watching TV. These are things that most families take for granted, but not every family is so lucky.

Currently restrictive rules are keeping refugee families, including child refugees and their parents apart, these are families who have often already lived through war and conflict. On 16th March, MPs will vote on the Refugee Family Reunion Bill. Amnesty is calling on MPs to attend the parliamentary debate and vote to reunite refugee families.

Amnesty International has launched its Families Together campaign in partnership with charities including Refugee Council, UNHCR and Student Action for Refugees who are all calling on the government to change the rules that keep refugee families apart.

Alongside the installation that will take place on the 9th and 10th March, leading up to the event, the campaign will be promoted on Facebook and Twitter with stills by award-winning photographer Dave Stewart. In addition to the social campaign there will also be a 30 second taxi video playing across 2000 interior taxi TTV screens through London, promoting both the Southbank installation and the issue. During the installation the families in the box will be live streamed on Facebook thanks to streaming partner Groovy Gecko.

The installation will be on London’s Southbank near the Oxo Tower from 12 – 8pm on Friday 9th and 10am – 8pm on Saturday 10th March.
