Vodafone X SASSY

Katherine Jenkins Care home sing-along

Vodafone and media agency, SASSY, approached Groovy Gecko to stream an event with Katherine Jenkins singing from her garden, featuring care homes from around the UK. Providing an engineer and technology on-site, we delivered the live stream seamlessly to the Vodafone Facebook page.

The stream has over 10,000 views and was a huge success in boosting the morale in care homes across the UK through music and technology.

Objectives.

Vodafone has teamed up with multi-award winning mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins OBE to put on a one-off, live sing-along for care home residents, their families and staff. The event, hosted virtually by TV presenter Angellica Bell via a live broadcast streamed directly from Katherine’s home, was to be broadcast into care homes across the UK as well as for anyone to watch on Facebook Live on Vodafone UK’s Facebook page. The sing-along was designed to boost morale and connect people through music and technology. Singing is proven to help promote a sense of community, improve wellbeing and increase positive moods.

We were tasked with delivering the live stream of this event and providing the technology that pulled the program feed to be sent to the Vodafone Facebook page.

What we did.

We were tasked with pulling the video feed from Sassy and using an on-site encoder, we directed the video to Vodafone’s Facebook page where it was live streamed. Abiding by the current social distancing regulations in UK care homes, the sing-along will be enjoyed by residents and staff viewing together in communal areas of care homes, while families and people at home can join via Facebook. Hundreds from Anchor Hanover and CHD Living care homes took part, singing along to classic hits A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Here’s To The Heroes and You Are My Sunshine, and even a special birthday request from a resident, Audrey Grogan, at Anchor’s Blackbrook House in Colchester, who celebrated her 109th birthday this month.

the results.

The results of this live stream were very successful, with over 10,000 total views and nearly 400 comments. Care homes around the UK were delighted to hear and participate in the event with Katherine Jenkins singing classics and bespoke requests. Vodafone and Sassy were very pleased with the results of the live stream.
