Malala Fund raises funds using Facebook Live Donate

Groovy Gecko were approached by Facebook in November 2017 to help on a Facebook Live activation with Malala Yousafzai. This would be one of the first live streams using the new Facebook donate feature which had been developed to help charities fund raise through the platform.

Malala, a human rights activist focusing on education for women and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate when she was awarded the prize in 2014, hosted a Q&A discussion as part of the #GivingTuesday campaign. The stream was an opportunity for Malala to thank donors who had shown their support and helped break down barriers to education for girls. Groovy Gecko were able to connect live with donors so they could be thanked in person and chat with Malala about how their support had helped.

Facebook Live viewers were able to donate throughout the live show and also submit questions through the FB comments. Those questions were then moderated using our question moderation tool for Malala to answer.

The event was a success with tens of thousands of views helping the Malala fund gain more exposure and the donations received helped continue the funding of the campaign for education for women.
