Groovy Gecko Launches California Office

Jul 4, 2022

With 22 years’ experience and an impressive showreel of work across Europe and North America, Groovy Gecko is now opening a new office in California

Award-winning livestreaming and production agency, Groovy Gecko, has announced the opening of an international office in San Francisco, California. The London-founded business with over 22 years’ experience in live events streaming and production is launching across the pond, following increased demand from American clients.

As demand for wider-scope projects in the US and beyond has grown, Groovy Gecko has recognised the need to open a permanent office in the US. While the agency has worked on US-wide projects for over a decade, the value of having a US base to manage their network of American talent and local resources will help in producing the best quality productions, managing highly complex workflows seamlessly, while also reducing the agency’s carbon footprint.

Craig Moehl, Managing Director and Founder of Groovy Gecko says, “Opening an office in the US feels like an instinctual and timely next step for Groovy Gecko. We are working on more and larger scale projects in America – creating ground-breaking live streaming events and activations for national and global brands – so having a permanent presence there makes sense for us and for our clients.

“We have been pioneers and leaders in this industry in the UK for over twenty years and already have a deep understanding of the US market. So more formally sharing our extensive knowledge, capabilities and unique product set with new American clients whilst supporting our existing multinational clients is a natural and exciting progression.”

Groovy Gecko has worked with some of the biggest names in the world, including Universal Music, Intel, Amazon and Google. In the past year alone, they have worked in the US with Intel on a multi-day campaign to launch their international Gamer Days, with Sony for a holographic press conference for the launch of Spiderman: No Way Home, and Gallagher for an internal comms event.

Moehl, who also heads up RnD at Groovy Gecko, says that “during the pandemic, Groovy Gecko was able to quickly pivot our Enterprise Video Platform called EckoEnterprise, to offer a best-in-class solution for large scale and super secure Virtual Conferencing and Hybrid Events. It has become apparent that the US market in particular lacks easy access to a cost effective, flexible, multi-lingual, secure, and accessible live events platform that is also backed up with production and remote-production services. Groovy Gecko have been invited and welcomed to US shores by a market hungry for a stable, honestly priced, and professionally supported platform and we are grateful and excited to share our experience and acumen”.

Groovy Gecko both produced and streamed the now legendary 2020 Andrea Bocelli concert, live streamed from Milan in the midst of the pandemic, which saw 8 million views in 24 hours, breaking the record for most watched classical music concert on YouTube. Spurred on by these types of complex live production successes, Groovy Gecko are confident that they can offer similar high-end production services in the US, managed by their San Francisco on-staff producers.

Having been launch partners for Facebook Live, Groovy Gecko’s experience in social streaming has evolved to producing live shopping events for brands, including chocolate brand Cadbury and fashion brand Pretty Little Thing. In the US, the industry is projected to reach a value of $25 billion by 2023, more than doubling its $11 billion value at the start of this year[i] – so the brand sees huge opportunity here for future growth. Groovy Gecko’s experience in supporting brands and ecommerce-based live events is directly transferable to the US market, where demand is on the increase.
