Groovy Gecko to Stream Easter Eggs Live

Mar 25, 2013

Groovy Gecko, leading webcast provider, today announced that it will be providing the live stream for Windfall Films and Channel 4’s Easter Eggs Live series, revealing the wonderful world of eggs for the first time.

From Monday 25th March, 17 ‘egg streams’ will be going live. Viewers will be able to follow the eggs 24/7 and catch them at the all-important moment when they hatch. There will be crocodiles, emus, penguins, spiders, turtles, snakes… every animal featured in the TV programmes.

Groovy Gecko will be providing the live stream for each of these eggs, which are being filmed from a state-of-the-art hatching studio. Groovy Gecko has built a complex administrative system to support the Windfall Films Interactive Team in managing a large volume of content. This includes a special ‘snap shot’ tool to allow them to take stills from the streams whilst live and a staging mechanism for each stream so that the video player can change to be in sync with the stage of the animal’s incubation journey (as some times those eggs are going to turn into babies!).

Groovy Gecko has built a viewing platform so that the Editorial team can keep their eyes on as many animals at one time as possible. It will also be creating an archive of all the streams 24/7.

Once the animals have hatched, ‘Baby Cam’ will stream all the baby animal action live. A team of natural history experts will be working around the clock to provide updates and answer viewer questions.

Kate Quilton, Multiplatform Commissioning Editor, FACTUAL, Channel 4 commented: “Having worked with Groovy Gecko on previous projects, we were confident in their ability to deliver one of our most ambitious streaming projects to date.”

“We are pleased to be working with Windfall Films and Channel 4 on another exciting and innovative project,” commented Jake Ward, Business Development Director, Groovy Gecko. “Complementing TV programmes with live streams in this way is a great way of enhancing the viewing experience and driving engagement.”

Easter Eggs Live starts on Monday, March 25th with 6 x 3 min live programmes daily at 7.55pm. Two 60-minute live shows air on Sunday, March 31st (Easter Sunday) and Monday, April 1st. Viewers can follow all the hatching and baby animal action around the clock at channel4.com/eggs and twitter.com/eastereggslive
