John Spear – the best of us all

Nov 22, 2022

It’s with overwhelming sadness that Groovy Gecko reveal that John Spear passed away on Monday the 7th November 2022. John had been recovering extremely well after his liver transplant over 6 months ago, so this was completely unexpected.

We are devastated. John was a Gecko for over 18 years and leaves a huge hole in our team and hearts. If you had a personal relationship with John, I am sorry for your loss. John would have wanted us to honour his memory by getting on with things as was his approach in life.

John leaves a legacy, not just with Groovy Gecko, but with all who were fortunate to know him. Our thoughts, prayers and support go out to his young family and Johns’ extended family in this heart-breaking time.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a contribution to the charity that prolonged his life and supported him tremendously, here is a Justgiving page in memory of John for PSC Support. It’s his wifes’ wish that if you can support this charity in any way possible, they can give hope to those suffering with PSC, that effective treatment and a cure can be found. https://justgiving.com/fundraising/john-spear-in-memory

John’s funeral service will take place on Thursday 24th November 2022 at 10:30am London time to celebrate the love, laughter and memory of such a genuinely wonderful person. For those who can’t attend in person, the service will be available as a webcast using the link below.

John was a lovely, lovely gentle man. The kindest, most patient, compassionate, considerate and courageous of us all.

John will always be remembered and revered. I will miss him and I know you will too.
