SuperShow TikTok live
Superdrug became the first beauty retailer to host an in-store and on-platform talent show, with a live final on TikTok UK. The retailer’s #SuperShow competition saw entrants complete three challenges inspired by products available at Superdrug. #SuperShow set new weekly challenges for Superdrug’s community, culminating in a final broadcast live on TikTok.
Groovy Gecko were briefed by TikTok and Superdrug to help put together their TikTok live Superdrug supershow. We worked across various aspects of the project, including setting up a full production with robotic cameras, managing the live streams and graphic animations.
In collaboration with TikTok and creative agency Clickon, Superdrug wanted to create an interactive challenge-based show exclusive for TikTok Live. They shortlisted 6 creators to go head-to-head using Superdrug products in 9 challenges throughout the live show for a chance to win £1,000 worth of points.
What we did.
We were tasked with filming and vision mixing the multi-camera show, with extra challenges such as the water-based activities and fast-changing studio sets. We had 14 crew involved on this project and used wet weather camera covers for this, and our experienced outdoor camera team. The clients had designed on-screen graphics, which we animated as well as creating a score board, dynamically updating these during the show. We provided a full broadcast-quality production set up, with three operated cameras and two robotic cameras and a vision mixing desk. We also provided a sound desk package including wireless microphones, in-ear monitors and studio floor communication sets.
The show was streamed to the Superdrug official TikTok channel, as well as distributed by TikTok to the influencers’ accounts. The creative team designed interactive challenges for participants to engage in, with time constraints, blindfolds, moving props and mannequins. The host, Ash Holme, and judges were the glue of the show, making it really dynamic and fun to watch.
